Today is the 30th anniversary of the release of Poltergeist

Although officially attributed to Tobe Hooper, the film was clearly directed by Steven Spielberg. The photos above see him on set and with the child cast of both Poltergeist and ET (that was released a week later on the 11th June, 1982)

Although tame as a horror film by today’s standards, it still remains a favourite of mine and influential to many films that followed. Most recently, Paranormal Activity 3 was a clear homage to Poltergeist - I lost count of the number of times it referenced the film
